Moissanite

Moissanite

In Ethera designs, moissanite is often used as a center stone. Moissanite is a crystalline mineral composed of silicon and carbon, with the chemical formula SiC (silicon carbide).

It was first discovered in 1893 by the French scientist Henri Moissan in a meteor crater. Natural moissanite is extremely rare; today, gem-quality moissanite is produced in controlled laboratory environments.

One of moissanite’s most remarkable qualities is its exceptional ability to refract light. With a refractive index of approximately 2.65–2.69, it actually exceeds that of diamond. This gives moissanite its distinctive fire and intense brilliance. It also ranks 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it highly durable for everyday wear.

Thanks to its optical structure, moissanite disperses light with remarkable intensity, creating a vibrant and dynamic sparkle in jewelry. These characteristics make it an especially compelling choice for center stones.

At Ethera, moissanite is chosen not only for its visual impact, but also for its alignment with a modern and conscious approach to material selection. Its brilliance, durability, and traceable production process offer a balanced combination of beauty and responsibility in contemporary jewelry design.
